Calculate transformer turns ratio and voltage

Berechnen

Wie zu Verwenden

  1. Enter at least three values (primary voltage, primary turns, secondary voltage, or secondary turns)
  2. Leave one field empty to calculate it
  3. Click calculate to see all transformer parameters
  4. Uses the formula: V1/V2 = N1/N2

Transformer Basics

A transformer is an electrical device that transfers energy between two circuits through electromagnetic induction. It consists of two coils (primary and secondary windings) wrapped around a common magnetic core.

Transformers can step voltage up or down while maintaining power (minus losses). The relationship between primary and secondary voltage is determined by the turns ratio.

Turns Ratio Formula

  • V1/V2 = N1/N2
  • Where V1 = primary voltage, V2 = secondary voltage
  • N1 = primary turns, N2 = secondary turns
  • Turns ratio = N1/N2

Applications

  • Power distribution
  • Voltage level conversion
  • Isolation between circuits
  • Impedance matching
  • Audio equipment
  • Power supplies

Häufig gestellte Fragen

What is a transformer turns ratio?
The turns ratio is the ratio of primary winding turns to secondary winding turns (N1/N2). It determines how voltage and current are transformed between primary and secondary sides.
How does voltage relate to turns?
The voltage ratio equals the turns ratio: V1/V2 = N1/N2. If the primary has more turns than the secondary, it's a step-down transformer. If secondary has more turns, it's a step-up transformer.
Can transformers work with DC?
No, standard transformers only work with AC (alternating current). Transformers rely on changing magnetic fields, which only occur with AC. For DC voltage conversion, use DC-DC converters.
